It seems that more and more couples are will to splurge when it comes to saying “I do”. While is it supposed to be one of the happiest days of your life, it’s also one of the most expensive 24 hours you’ll have with the average cost of a UK wedding hitting an all time high.
According to a new survey of 4000 brides, the average cost of a UK wedding is now a whopping £27,161 the highest it has ever been and up 9.6% from last year.
The findings also revealed that wedding spending varies by region in the UK; the average cost of a wedding rises to £33,884, while couples from the Midlands proved the most prudent, spending an average of £25,915 on their wedding.
It appears on average the largest amounts are spent on venue hire (£4,354), honeymoon (£3,630), and on the food (£3,353).
At the same time the average cost of an engagement ring now stands at £2,084, up by 17.6% from three years ago. Londoners spend the most at £3,133 while couples from the Midlands spent £1,810.
Interestingly, contrary to tradition whereby the parents would pay if not all then contribute significantly, it seems that as time has changed and living costs have gone up, around 51% of couples pay for their wedding with little help from family members and 32% pay for the entire event.
This is a large amount and pressure for any couple before they have even started there married life together. This one-day will mean months if not years of saving and possibly postponing the date. Despite the costs, couples still want that “perfect day”, of celebrating their union together.
